Mind field: the Sewing Seeds presents a connection between confession and the act of stitch. Each share intimate and internal qualities, drawing together the mind and body in one action.
Like sharing a burden, writing (or making) something physical from an idea forces an issue to a conclusion. Mindfield is a materialisation of hours spent pinning down thoughts and memories into something that can be touched.
A thought has a simple conclusion. It will either gain momentum or be liquefied. The process of reducing personal tensions, stress, pain, guilt, regret in such a meditative task is indescribably therapeutic. This sense of emersion and freedom is conveyed through the weightless qualities of the work.
An awareness of time and connection is present immediately, but the narrative is heavily concealed. Segments of the text are reversed or out of context. The reader is left hungry for what is missing. It is natural to fill in these blanks, right or wrong, and recall ones’ own similar experiences. There is a shared nostalgia between hand-embroidered textiles and secrecy.
